Learning To Love Yourself
Oscar Wilde said, “To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance.” Loving yourself is a conscious decision towards living a happy and fulfilled life. There are a plenty of self-help books available in the market and all the self-help gurus will tell you to love yourself first before you love others. However, the first step towards loving yourself is figuring out who you are, what your true identity is. The second step is to accept and appreciate the way you are. If you don’t like or love somebody, you can walk away or avoid him or her. But what if you don’t love yourself? You can’t ignore yourself, you can’t escape yourself, can you? Loving yourself also holds the key to attain a high self-esteem, thereby gaining abundance, happiness and all the desired success in life. Stop thinking yourself to be a failure. Nurture your dreams and have confidence in yourself. Make yourself believe that you are special and in no way inferior to others. If you have sunk yourself too low in self-degradation and missing all the joys and happiness of life, it is high time to change your perspective towards yourself. There are some simple processes, which you must adopt to shun all the negativities and hatred towards yourself and induce self-love.
How To Love Yourself
Talk To Yourself
Grow a habit of talking to yourself. Keep asserting positive thoughts into your mind. Praise yourself when you do something good. Stand in front of a mirror and complement yourself. Nurture your dreams. Keep reminding yourself what you want to be.Visualize yourself as already being what you wanted to be.
Stop Being Self-Critical
Don’t chide yourself on your failures or follies. There is no one who has not made mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and look ahead. Don’t let them linger on your mind for too long so that you always keep yourself blaming for your mistakes. Do not repent, rather atone.
Be Truthful To Yourself
Never lie to yourself. Show your true emotions and do not try to suppress it. If you are happy then celebrate, if you are sad express your sadness, but never hide your real feelings.
Foster Your Self-Confidence
Encourage yourself. “Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond your control.” Keep asserting positivity in your mind. Keep talking to yourself. Keep chanting “I can, I will”. Continue brushing up your skills, which you already are gifted with. It will help to build self-esteem. William Hazlitt said, “He who undervalues himself is justly undervalued by others”.
Forget Your Worries
If you are learning to love yourself it is very important to forget your worries. Try not to let it dwell in your mind even for a moment. Try to pamper yourself when you are worried or stressed. Shun your worries as if they are not yours. If there is any difficulty or problem in your life, which your mind seems to be preoccupied with, face and eradicate it as early as possible. Don’t nurture the causes of your worries. It will present a great obstacle in the process of loving yourself.
Relax And Enjoy Life
“The most important thing is to enjoy your life — to be happy — it’s all that matters.” Try to relax your mind. Take breaks while working. Don’t leave a bore and monotonous life. Figure out what amuses you the most. Instill some fun into your life. Hangout with friends, watch movies, do whatever pleases you but try to be happy and enjoy each and every moment of your life.
Look After Your Body
“To tell the truth is to become beautiful, to begin to love yourself, value yourself. And that’s political, in its most profound way” — June Jordan. Take good care of your body. Provide yourself with all nutrition. It is said that body is a temple. Worship it.do exercises. Follow a healthy routine. Eat and sleep well. One who doesn’t care for his body doesn’t love himself. Meditate every day for at least half an hour. Spiritual indulgence helps one to love himself as it brings mind and body in harmony with each other. Love yourself the way you look. Every individual is unique and all have different physical appearances. Don’t be ashamed of yourself. Be proud of yourself and be content with the way you look.
Do Not Let Yourself To Be Dominated
People often let others to dominate their lives. It is self-degrading. Don’t let others rule your life. Decide for yourself. Resolve your disputes yourself. Learn to say no. Don’t succumb to others’ wishes or demands too readily. If you feel one of your friends is exploiting you, abandon him or her immediately. Don’t let anyone humiliate or disrespect you. You have all the right in the world to be respected and adored.
Stop Worrying About Other People’s Opinion
Don’t be worried about what others say about you. If you do, you will start acting contrary to your nature. Be yourself. Do whatever pleases you. Their thoughts on what you do and how you do are irrelevant. Be confident and accept yourself the way you are, sans any apprehensions.
There are times when you scold yourself for your mistakes or berate yourself for not being able to achieve what others around you did. You start believing that you lack the skills, which others possess. These thoughts corrode your self-esteem and induce self-hatred. However, you must remember that every individual is unique and everyone possesses some special traits or talents. You must find what your true skills are and nurture them instead of being baffled by others achievements. This will boost your self-esteem and you will start loving yourself all over again. However, you have to install the above-mentioned habit meticulously in your life for real success.
